Our History

Brea Community Emergency council

In 1957,a few Breans informally volunteered to provide temporary assistance whenever they learned of residents experiencing acute financial difficulties. This group formalized as the Brea Welfare Council in 1960 and gained IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit tax exemption.

Along the way, the name changed to the Brea Community Emergency Council, but the mission remained the same as today: lend a hand to help Breans get back on their feet when they need it most.
